"Drop" Weapons

Two Quick Questions:

What happens when the world's best and most professional military machine gets assigned to a war occupation where we have no business, experience, linguistic or cultural affinity?

Who are the "al Qaeda", "al Qaeda types", "enemies", "extremists", "Iranian agents", "militants", "special groups", and "terrorists"?

They are Iraqis !
"Drop" weapons have been infused into chain of command's informal de facto rules of engagement.

The American public doesn't know. The American public doesn't want to know. The American public doesn't care.

Vigil, Australians are fed up with the occupation mission and are leaving the coalition of the willining in Iraq.

Australian army chief Lieutenant General Peter Leahy told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that he understood some soldiers wanted "a bit more of a go", but they had to understand the nature of war had changed to occupation:

"This is no longer infantry wearing red jackets and white cross straps, taking on the army of another king.

What we're seeing now is that we're required to work in different populations to work to protect, to support and persuade.

I know that the infantry have real basic skills, that they can do that traditional role of seek ... and kill and destroy. But we're not asking for that at the moment, that's not the environment we're in."
