Jesusita Fire
Day 3?
It seems to have been burning weeks or more.
Yesterday, this was one fire in Mission Canyon. Today it is two fires inside Santa Barbara, threatening Goleta to the west and Montecito to the east. Thousands of people have evacuated. I have close friends who, I hope, have escaped with their clothes on their backs. I could not enter Elings Park to exercise Ballou because it is closed to everyone except the Fire Department. Air quality is abysmal. Water pressure is down. This event is effecting everyone in the community and, when over, will have changed Santa Barbara forever.

Found your blog through a Google search for the fire. It sucks, doesn't it? I don't know if you live in the area, but my fiance and I do, and both our homes are in danger - one in Montecito and one in Goleta. Anyway, I guess I'm just seeking comfort in other people's experiences with the fire. Take care!
Yes,, Tabitha. We live here! Let's keep the faith, huh! and K.I.T.!
I know exactly how you feel. I thought nothing would ever be the same after the Painted Cave Fire. But within a couple of years things were starting to seem normal again, greening up. I do remember the scent of dirty ashtray lingering for 6 months or more after the fire.
Keep the faith Vig. I'm sending my best thoughts your way. I hope all your friends are okay.
Why can't all those fire people control it? I hear it's because of the prevalence and unpredictability of the win. Is that true?
I hope you will soon be blessed with a day or two of torrential rain to put out the fire!
Thanks, Jack. Things look encouraging. Cooling weather is directing the two fires back into the mountain wilderness, away from our human population. However, the blaze is listed now as 0% contained, down from 10%.
Great pictures that scare Hell out of me. Especially the one at night that could come from Dante's Inferno.
Best wishes and hope.
